[Computer Science] Innovate Teaching Assistant

Silicon Valley Education Foundation, in partnership with local school districts since 2008 to offer
students educational services. [Computer Science] Innovate ([CS]I), features a curriculum developed
by Microsoft and meticulously curated by our expert team. [CS]I is designed to empower rising 6th-10th graders with computer science education by teaching foundational skills and design-thinking on the computer and through project building. We are seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to join our team.
LOCATION & WORK SCHEDULE
Classes will be held in person in the Greater Bay Area and determined based on the best fit for the applicants' needs and availability. We partner with school districts as far north as Lodi and south as Soledad. Most heavily concentrated in the San Jose area.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Support up to 2-4 classrooms for project based CS instruction.
Provide IT support to teachers, students, and families.
Provide administrative support (e.g. calling parents and recording student attendance).
Reinforce norms (e.g. supporting group discussions in person or via zoom).
Serve as a mentor and positive role model to students.
Engage with students by asking questions during pair-share or small group sessions, support students during project work time.
Support with technology tools such as Zoom, Google Classroom, or Nearpod.
Support teacher and program with other various assigned tasks.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Program Orientation and Professional Learning
Mandatory attendance of pre-program training on Wednesday, May 29th from 4pm -
6pm. Mandated Harassment Prevention Training (waived if obtained Certificate of
Completion within the last two years). Asynchronous Micro:bit/CPX work.
Professional Learning Community (1 hour)
Meet with [CS]I Staff and other Teaching Assistants via Zoom to learn and share
common classroom approaches, work through misconceptions, and develop best
practices. (dates TBD)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Currently a high school senior or enrolled in college or a recent college graduate.
Interest in working with 6th-10th grade students in an academic setting.
Demonstrated written, verbal, and digital communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a classroom setting.
Required proof of TB test results and fingerprinting before working with students (costs reimbursed by SVEF).
Access to reliable transportation.
COMPENSATION
Middle School Programs (19 days): $2,552 ($116 daily rate) (19 days, payroll taxes apply).
High School Programs (24 days): $3,915 ($145 daily rate) (24 days, payroll taxes apply).
* Full compensation includes complete fulfillment of all PL and PLC dates, daily class commitment,
out-of-class prep, and required logistics. There is no overtime and a cap of 8 working hours per day.
Program length can vary upon district assignment.
